Cowboys’ Micah Parsons discloses the real reason for ‘purposely’ skipping pre-draft interview with the Eagles
Joe Rondone / The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK / USA TODAY NETWORK

Micah Parsons was perhaps born and destined to be a Dallas Cowboy. The linebacker for America’s team is a one-of-one. While he is a generational talent, a player with an elite skillset and an absolute steal that the Cowboys managed to lay their hands on in the 2021 draft, he is also probably the only Philadelphia native who genuinely wanted out of the city.

The city of Brotherly Love occupies a special place in Parsons’ heart. This is because he is a product of Pennsylvania. Apart from spending his childhood in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he attended Penn State and has pretty much spent his entire life in the same region. But he had decided that when he became an NFL player, he would not be wearing his hometown’s colors.

I didn't wanna stay home...when Philly fans talk to me like, 'Man, you should come to Philly!' I'm like, I do not want to...I went to Penn State, I wanted to get out of Penn...A fresh start. Micah Parsons revealed via his The Edge podcast

This does come as a surprise because usually when a player spends their entire life in one region, they yearn to play for the local team for the rest of their lives. However with Parsons, the story is entirely different.

Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys fit in perfectly

His response increased his popularity in Dallas. The Cowboys possibly have the most passionate bunch of fans in the NFL. Despite not having been to the Super Bowl in nearly three decades, there is nothing the team’s fans would like more than to get an opportunity to infuriate their divisional rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.

The linebacker’s decision to abstain from meeting with the Eagles paid off. He fit like a hand in a glove in Dallas, quickly making an impact and getting compared to the likes of Lawrence Taylor in his rookie year. He has been consistent and has been a dominant force since.

Parsons recorded 36 solo tackles in the 2023-24 season, with 14 sacks and 1 forced fumble. He has quickly become the face of the Cowboys’ defense and will be a determining force in the team’s effort to win a championship.
