Garcia Sends Spence An Offer, Will Beat Him Worse Than Crawford: ‘He’ll Be Cross-eyed For Life’
Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Ryan Garcia called out Errol Spence Jr., saying he has instructed his lawyers to make the fighter an offer.

Garcia and Spence were former stablemates under Derrick James. Their relationship turned sour when Spence departed amid allegations that he did not pay James his money. James’ team filed a lawsuit, claiming that the trainer was owed 10 per cent of a $25 million guaranteed purse that Spence received for the Terence Crawford fight. This included any PPV revenue. James was reportedly paid $350,000, leading both sides to go to court.

James found “Spence’s breach of contract, fraudulent business practices and misrepresentations after Spence received the $25 million guaranteed fight purse” for the Crawford fight.

Spence states told James he “was not entitled to receive 10 percent of his guaranteed purse. Spence asserted someone named ‘Al’ told him that paying James $350,000 for the Crawford fight in exchange for his training services was ‘generous.’”

Garcia reacted by demanding Spence to pay up. Now that animosity has resulted in a call out from the boxer, with both men firing verbals shots.

Garcia vs. Spence

There are several reasons why Garcia would take the fight. James is well aware of Spence, having trained him to become a former Unified Welterweight Champion. That tactical insight will prove valuable if they were to square off in the ring. There are also serious question marks over Spence’s form. The loss to Crawford could prove damaging, given it was a one-sided beating. He was dropped three times on his way to getting stopped in the ninth round. Following Garcia’s win over Devin Haney, Ryan could do something similar if he lands the same left hook on Spence.

The fight will also sell out. Both men are big PPV stars. Garcia’s fight with Gervonta Davis sold over 1.2 million PPVs. Meanwhile, Spence sold around 700,000 for the Crawford fight. Garcia teased a potential fight date for August 10 at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

Will It Happen?

But before that can happen, Garcia must clear his name after his failed Ostarine test. He failed two VADA tests for the substance for the Haney fight. While the testing ruled out 9-Norandrosterone, he must clarify the presence of Ostarine. The amount in his system was allegedly minuscule.

“We are dealing only with a known supplement contaminant in the billionth of a gram range that provided Ryan Garcia with no performance-enhancing benefit whatsoever on fight night. We now wait for B-sample testing on the presence of low-level Ostarine only on May 22. He was negative 17 days before,” Darin Chavez (Garcia’s attorney) stated

This may aid Garcia’s attempt to argue unintentional use or contamination. And yet, the weight class could also prove a problem. The fight would likely take place at 154 pounds. That is a big leap for Garcia to make since he has not fought in the weight division. Since Spence is a big hitter with world championship experience, it is unclear if Garcia could win at that level. But until his failed test is cleared up, the Spence fight will have to wait.
